Are you ready to dive into the world of engineering and STEM? The Minnesota State Engineering Center of Excellence invites 5th-12th grade students and their educators to the Engineering Design for Everyone workshop, an immersive experience poised to revolutionize the way STEM is taught and learned. Hosted at St. Cloud State University on Tuesday, May 14th, 2024, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to explore practical engineering principles, innovative teaching strategies, and the potential of high-demand STEM careers.

Why This Workshop Matters

The future of education is hands-on, engaging, and multidisciplinary. The Engineering Design for Everyone workshop embodies this future by providing students and educators with:

  • Practical Engineering Experience: Students will build a chain-reaction machine, applying their creativity and engineering skills in a tangible project.
  • Educational Innovation for Teachers: Educators will explore creating Maker Spaces, delve into SCSU Mobile Labs, and learn CADD for laser engraving & printing, enriching their curriculum and teaching methodologies.
  • A Pathway to STEM Careers: By participating, students open their eyes to the exciting possibilities within high-demand STEM fields, motivating them to consider these paths for their futures.

What to Expect

For Educators: Increase your confidence in integrating engineering concepts across various disciplines, with workshops tailored to provide you with valuable insights and resources. Discover strategies to make engineering appealing to all students, especially those traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.

For Students: Engage in a hands-on challenge that not only tests your creativity and problem-solving skills but also introduces you to mechanical, electrical, and computer programming elements of engineering projects.

Workshop Highlights

  • Cross-Curricular Learning: The integration of engineering design principles across various disciplines enhances the educational experience, making learning more relevant and engaging.
  • Inclusive Learning Environment: Strategies to appeal to all students ensure that everyone, regardless of background, feels included and inspired to explore STEM.
  • Resource Bundle: The first schools to register will receive a special bundle to bring the workshop experience back to the classroom, enriching the learning journey beyond the event.
