Merit-Based Team Qualification

Each Regional Contest will be allowed to qualify a certain number of teams per division based on the number of teams that participate in each division. If a qualifying team is unable to attend the Championship, the opportunity to advance is awarded to the next highest scoring team in that division.

Wildcard teams are identified at the discretion of the Regional Contest Organizer. A wildcard team could be chosen by whichever team receives the People Choice Award or selected by a Judges Panel. The Regional Contest Organizer has the final say in the team(s) selected for wildcard spots.

Regional Contest Quotas:

Number of Teams Competing at Regional Contest Division  Number of Teams Qualifying for the Championship

Up to 9 Teams                              Top 3 Teams

   10 to 19 Teams                    Top 5 Teams + 1 Wildcard Teams

             20 to 29 Teams                   Top 6 Teams + 3 Wildcard Teams

30 or More Teams                 Top 7 Teams + 5 Wildcard Teams

Waitlist Team Qualification

Teams may join the Championship Waitlist to fill slots not consumed by Merit-Based Qualifying teams. Using a software, team names will be “from the hat” until a set number of teams have been drawn and sent out invitations to the Championship. The number of teams invited from the waitlist will depend on the Championship venue space and the estimated number of Merit-Based Qualifying teams.

The waitlist teams will be drawn on the following dates:

  • Group One: February 1, 2024
  • Group Two: March 1, 2024

All Waitlist Qualifying teams MUST participate in a regional contest to be allowed to participate in the Championship. Teams are encouraged to submit their names to the waitlist as early as possible.

If a team qualifies via the waitlist and earns a Merit-based Qualification, the Merit-based Qualification will not be counted against the regional contest quota.
